Women Warriors in Vegas

It was a helluva event!!
Sarah Beth and I worked our butts off interviewing Women Warriors between bouts, with Director John Michael Ferrari and Producer Pepper Jay.

Saturday evening was insane but our six person Betacam SP camera crew, local union of course, showed that they had the moxie! The final championship bout was all we hoped it would be. The challenger, Lindsey Compton, took a hit to the face in the first round that had her rethinking her quest to dethrone the two-time titleholder, Angela Hayes. In the second round, to show she was not intimidated, Angela removed her protective headgear, dramatically tossing it off into the crowd. Great showmanship, but it allowed Lindsey to deliver a devastating blow to the face, knocking the champ's mouth guard out and drawing a torrent of blood. From my vantage point, I could see a new glint in Lindsey's eyes as she landed a second massive blow to Angela's face. As the final bell rang it was clear that this rematch fight was much closer than last year's fight, but most agreed (with their cheers) that the reigning champion had dominated three of the four rounds. Angela Hayes got her three-peat and remains the US International Martial Arts Continuous Sparring Champion!! **Insert "Rocky" theme song here.

I was there and this fight was much better, or should I say much closer than your article would lead one to believe!!
Angela takes her head gear off in an attempt to intimidate her opponents. She did the same exact thing last year when lindsey fought her!
Also the manner in which the "Champ" entered the ring was less than professional!
Wait till next year, !!!!

first off I would like to say that I was also there and the article is prett close to what happened except for the mothe peice flying out the blood was due to a cheap shot by Lindsey an illegal elbow for the second time will make a oerson bleed headgear or no head gear. taking the head gear off by Miss Hayes is not to intimidate anyone its a simple fact that headgear bothers her so she chooses to take it off. So if your intimidated by that maybe you need to start spending alot more time in the gym. Regaurding entering the ring like she did was not her idea but the promoters they wanted to put on a show for the camras so get over it! By the way I cant wait till next year, !!!
Love ya

Was there for the fight and have to say that lindsey Did throw a few illegal punches. Angela is the best fighter that I have ever seen in the women's events. I am a guy and would be intimidated to be in the ring with such a fierce competitior! She attacks and attacks! It is a great fight to watch! I looked forward to seeing her again after last years win. The only thing is that I wish for the champ is that she have some fighters that could actually perform at her level. She is inspiring to me and my daughters! I LOVE when she tosses the head gear into the crowd! She shows no fear in the ring! Go Angela!

I was also at that fight and was so impressed by the level of poise and class that Ms. Compton dispayed as a competitor. She is a young, strong fighter who may have been intimidated as an 18 year-old in last year's fight by Angela's headgear- throwing behavior. This obviously was not the case at this year's fight. Lindsey came back with great confidence and will be even more prepared for next year's event. Angela isn't getting any younger which only works to Lindsey's advantage. In addition, Lindsey's determination and crowd appeal clearly show that her sophistication and sportsmanship win without fail. At the end of the fight Lindsey's name was being cheered from every angle of the arena and swarms of fans surrounded her after the fight. She is a great role model to other young girls and I look forward to seeing her win it next year!

I was so impressed with the ability level of Lindsey Compton. She came alive after Angela got that great shot to her face! I liked how she really put Angela's ego in place. I was surprised the decision went to Angela because Lindsey so clearly dominated the majority of the fight. At the end the fight Lindsey walked away looking gorgeous and Angela was a bloody mess! I'd like to see the footage of that fight because I think the title should have gone to Lindsey.

I was also at the fight. I was so impressed by the skill and poise showed by Lindsay. This was not mentioned in the article, but Lindsay had another fight before her fight with Angela. She didn't have the advantage of being completely fresh like Angela did. In an already close fight, I think that could have made all the difference in the world.

We all know who the champion of our hearts was at this fight as Angela accepted her prize money to chants of "Lindsay! Lindsay!"

I find it very interesting how many people of the site say they think the title should have gone to Ms. Compton, yet when Ms. Compton took a kick to the head she started to cry and wanted to give up. Ms. Compton also attempted many illegal techniques, which obviously did not phase Ms Hayes, to win this fight. The illegal elbow shot by Ms. Compton is what caused Ms. Hayes mouth to bleed and it was hardly gushing as many people have greatly over exaggerated here in this forum. Ms. Compton hardly put Ms. Hayes ego in check and anyone supporting either competitor is going to say they believe the title should have gone to the person they were supporting at the event. Ms. Hayes A bloody mess? hardly. A little blood in the mouth does not constitute a bloody mess. Ms. Compton did not at anytime dominate a majority of the fight. As a matter of fact she could barely stand as she was unable to withstand the blows she was recieving from her competitor. The Referee several times removed the fighters from fighting because of this fact.

We all do know who the champion of the fight is and it was the person who won the fight. And if Ms Hayes accepted prize money during a chant "Lindsey, Lindsey" it was because the area with all of Ms. Comptons fans were chanting it, not the whole crowd as many in this forum would have one believe.

I have seen time and time again where the supporters of the person who did not win the fight still tell everyone the person should have won or they got cheated or whatever the excuse is. Face the facts, the person did not win, that was the decision. Instead of complaining about it train harder.

Interesting.

Supporters for a fighter who did not win always find some excuse as to why the person should have won.

I happened to be in the front row of this match and since niether competitor was anyone I was there for I have a fairly objective view of what happened.

First of all, knowing what type of competition you will be competing in, you should be prepared for and should have trained for so as for Ms. Compton not being fresh is no excuse. It should have been known it would be that way so she should have been prepared end of story.

Second, Ms. Hayes was simply hit in the mouth by an illegal elbow used by Ms. Compton, and it was hardly gushing blood. If it were the fight would have been stopped permanantly and Ms Compton would have been disqualified. So it was not a great shot to the face. It was poor sportsmanship.

Third, Ms Compton hardly dominated a majority of the match. she was not able to withstand many of the blows thrown by Ms. Hayes and at one point she was hit so hard she began to cry and wanted to give up. She was barley able to stand at the end of the fight from almost being knocked out.

You can watch all the footage you want, you can make any excuse you want. The fact of the matter is Ms. Hayes won the fight. She accepted her prize as any fighter would and the only people chanting for Ms. Compton at that point was her crowd of supporters. No one else. It all comes down to training. Training hard and for the situation you will be in will make the difference. Not the comments of the supporters.

the fight was great!!!! even though compton lost she put up a great fight and got a couple good shots in... the article exagerates a little, well alot actually. people say that the blood was caused by a illegal elbow but who cares hayes should have blocked it anyways. i would also like to mention that since hayes wasnt seated this year that she went through the division without having to fight to the top, it was rigged so that she got a by then a forfit so she never had to fight until she got to lindsey, lindsey had to fight other people to get to the top.
